Frequently asked questions
What is Urality?
Urality is a district management platform that replaces multiple tools in your tech stack — CRM, CMS, mapping, communications, and more — and integrates them into one connected solution. Instead of duplicating effort across different channels and technologies, your team works from a single system that mirrors how you actually operate.
Who is Urality designed for?
Urality is built for place-based organizations including Business Improvement Districts (BIDs), Main Street programs, downtown development organizations, city districts, and municipalities. We've worked with communities ranging from populations under 5,000 to over 100,000.
How much does Urality cost?
Urality is priced as an annual subscription, tiered based on the number of entries in your CRM. Most customers pay between $2,400 and $5,000 per year for the recurring subscription. There is also an initial fee for onboarding and data migration. Most customers should expect a first-year cost of under $10,000, followed by the recurring annual subscription. Volume discounts for clusters of districts or downtowns are available upon request.
Is there a free trial?
We do not currently offer a free trial. However, we'd love to show you what the platform can do. Reach out today to schedule a live demo with our team.
How long does it take to get started?
Our goal is to upload your existing data and deliver the first version of your system within 14 days. From there, we work with you to implement your first project(s) and ensure you have something to show — and see real success — within the first 90 days.
Do you provide onboarding support?
Yes. We provide hands-on support throughout the onboarding period, including data migration and initial system setup. We are also developing a library of training materials that walk you through the most common uses of the platform.
Is Urality a web app, a mobile app, or both?
Urality is a web-based platform that runs on desktop, tablet, and mobile devices. There is no separate app to download — you access everything through your browser.
What are the technical requirements?
Urality works on all modern desktop, tablet, and mobile browsers. We regularly test the platform on Chrome and Safari. No special software or plugins are required. Urality does not have an offline mode at this time, so it does require an internet connection.
Can multiple team members use the platform?
Yes. Your account includes unlimited access for as many admin users as you need. At this time, all users see and interact with the same data — there are no role-based viewing or action restrictions.
Does Urality integrate with other software?
Urality does not currently offer direct integrations with other platforms. However, we work with each customer to import and integrate different data types — such as business records, parcels, property records, and zoning data — as needed during onboarding and beyond.
Can I import my existing data?
Yes. You can import existing data from spreadsheets exported as CSV files. Our team assists with data migration during the onboarding process to make sure everything transfers smoothly.
How is my data stored and protected?
Your data is stored in enterprise-grade document and relational databases that implement Transport Layer Security (TLS) through Secure HTTP (HTTPS), ensuring your information is encrypted in transit.
Who owns the data I put into Urality?
You maintain ownership of the content you add to the platform. Urality does use this content as part of the services we provide — for example, to populate public-facing event pages, directories, and calendars. Full details are available in our Terms of Use at urality.com/terms-of-use.
Can I embed Urality features on my existing website?
Yes. Public-facing features such as directories, maps, and event calendars can be embedded on your existing website using a standard HTML iframe tag. While we don't offer native plugins for platforms like WordPress or Squarespace, we have successfully implemented our widgets across all major website providers.
Is the platform customizable?
Yes, in several ways. Public-facing pages — including events, story maps, and directories — can be customized with your logo, brand colors, and a selection of common Google Fonts. CRM objects like businesses and properties support custom fields. We also provide out-of-the-box workflows for common communications (business onboarding, check-ins, event participation forms, surveys, and more), all of which can be tailored to your needs.
How is Urality different from a general CRM like Salesforce or HubSpot?
Urality is purpose-built for the work that BIDs, Main Street programs, and business districts do in community and economic development. Unlike general CRMs designed around sales leads and sales nurturing, Urality uses the terminology you already understand and provides workflows built for business acquisition and retention in a district context.
What kind of reporting and analytics does Urality offer?
Urality provides a macro-level view of your community directly through your CRM. You can track key performance indicators (KPIs) such as ground floor vacancy rate, number of employees supported, total investment, business type mix, and more.
Is there a long-term contract?
Urality requires an annual signup, which reflects the 90-day onboarding window needed to get fully up and running with the product. After that, subscription renewals are handled on a year-by-year basis.
What kind of ongoing support do you provide?
We are expanding our documentation with detailed walkthroughs and guides. We also offer direct email support with two priority levels: a 24-hour response time for critical issues that block your work, and a 48-hour response time for all other inquiries.
Can Urality be used outside the United States?
Currently, Urality is set up to do business within North America. If you are interested in exploring options outside of North America, please contact us directly and we'll be happy to discuss what's possible.
